Our super super seniors of Vasavi College of Engineering organized the 2007's version of our annual youth festival Euphoria, at the college campus, from 7th March to 10th March. Coinciding as it was the year with the silver jubilee year of the college, the fest was celebrated over a period of four days, and on the grandest ever scale.
7th March - Fusion Nite
The stage was set for a big performance, with Indian Ocean Vs Vayu. The entry was free and open to all.
Described by many as an Indi-rock fusion band with jazz-spiced rhythms that integrates slokas, sufism, environmentalism, mythology and revolotuon, Indian Ocean consists of Sumit Sen on the guitar and vocals, Asheem Chakravarthy on the tabla, tarant, other percussions and vocal, Rahul Ram on the bass guitar and vocals, and Amit Kilam on the drums, gabgubi and other percussion. With albums like Indian Ocean (1993), Desert Rain (1997), Kandisa (2000) and Jhini (2004), the band was quite popular among the masses.
Strongly influenced by Deep Purple, Rainbow, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Rush, Vayu is a heavy rock band, with the founder Ravi Ramaswami Iyer on the guitar, 2Blue aka Tirthankar Poddar on the lead vocals, Schubert Cuthbert Pierre D'Souza on bass 'n' keys, and Aatur Soni on the drums and percussion. A regular performer in the Bombay/Pune club circuit and on Hyderabad party circuits, the band has huge fan following that catapulted it to India's numero uno.
8th March - Rock Nite
The night begins with inter-college rock competitions, followed by a special performance by Prestorika. Speed metaller, Prestorika is the winner of the Campus Rock Idols in 2005. Concentrating a lot on stage performances, the band has been able to release only two albums in the last ten years, Emergence and Not My Way. The band is headed by Vasav Vashisht doing lead vocals, Lokesh Bakshi on the bass guitar, Anirban Ghosh on the guitar, and Nitesh Vasandani on the drums. The entry was free and open to all.
9th March - Pop Nite
The third evening of Euphoria witnessed a blend of British Asian music, with performers Jay Sean and Veronica churning out Rhythm and Blues tracks. The entry to the nite was by tickets of Rs. 100 and Rs. 350 for a stag Silver and Gold respectively, and Rs. 600 a couple.
Kamaljit Singh Jhooti, adapted name Jay Sean, is a British Asian Sikh R&B singer, who rose to fame with his debut album Me Against Myself that rocked the music charts in UK. This album sold over 2 million copies in India. He made a brief appearance in the Bollywood flick Kya Kool Hai Hum, and provided his voice for the song Dil Mera.
Another major attraction of the nite is Veronica, of the Bollywood track Hum Tum. Veronica made her mark as UK's First Lady of Asian Soul. Her soundtrack hit Hum Tum sold over 5 million units worldwide. She also featured in the same Bollywood movie Kya Kool Hai Hum, along with Rishi Rich and Jay Sean. Veronica's trademark music is Desi-R&B style, mixing up lyrics in three languages (English, Punjabi & Hindi).
10th March - Dhoom Nite
This evening was dedicated for college talent, with enchanting events lined up including a captivating theme ballet, followed by a classical night and live dances. The evening was punctuated with eclectic music, creative performances and a hyperactive crowd cheering every bit of the fun and celebrations. The entry was free and open to all.
